Hoarusib / Onkongwe, Camping
The seasonal Hoarusib River enters a beatiful gorge near the village of Purros. Purros is a Himba settlement, approximately 200 km south of the Kunene River, and 50 km inland from the Skeleton Coast.
Further down the Hoarusib Valley towards the ocean, there is place called Leylands Drift. This is where we enter the Hoarusib Valley. In years of drought, the Himbas tend to keep their livestock close to the last remaining water sources and their cows often end up in the Hoarusib Valley. We camp somewhere on the southern or northern bank of the river, about two hours' drive outside Purros.
Where we set up camp site will be decided on the way by the team. This always depends on the weather and the course of the day.
