Camp Doros
Twyfelfontein

Accommodation
Deliberately small and intimate, Camp Doros is located in an area where the rare desert-adapted Black Rhino is almost certain to be found. Here, safaris focus mainly on finding Black Rhinos - with the help of an experienced and qualified Rhino Ranger team.

The essence of Camp Doros is its unique environment in the heart of Damaraland. The camp is situated on a high bank overlooking a (almost always) dry riverbed. Six guest tents (one of which is a family tent) are elevated on platforms and feature a comfortable twin or double bed, ample storage space, solar power for lighting and charging stations, and hot water shower and flush toilet.

An inviting lounge tent with bar, restaurant and fire pit, as well as a small swimming pool and sun deck complete the cozy camp. Meals are all prepared in the largely solar-powered kitchen and on the wood-burning stove.

Location
Camp Doros is located in Doros Joint Management Area, which is a 19,000 hectare concession consisting of largely sparse semi-arid mountainous savanna, with wooded ephemeral river valleys separating hills and plains and it boasts some of the most magnificent views in Damaraland.

The camp is located more or less at the same latitude as Onduli Ridge, but further west of the road that leads to Twyfelfontein. Access is by plane or vehicle to Onduli Airstrip, from where guests are driven to the accommodation by the Camp Doros guide (75 minutes drive). Meeting time is 3pm at Onduli Airstrip.

Wildlife
As the area has a number of natural springs providing water throughout the year for desert-adapted wildlife, the area is home to desert-adapted elephant, black rhino and general plains game, including kudu, giraffe, springbok, oryx, mountain zebra, klipspringer and steenbok, as well as predators such as cheetah, leopard, spotted and brown hyena.

Activities
Main focus are full day excursion with the Rhino Ranges of the "Save the Rhino Trust". The rangers lead the guests to the vicinity of the black rhinos, then the vehicle is left behind and guests set out on foot to observe the shy animals as undisturbed as possible.

An excursion in search of the desert adapted elephants is included for stays of three days or more. Guided hikes and excursions to rock paintings (for stays of 3 nights or more) are also offered.
