Jacana Camp
Okavango Delta

Accommodation
Jacana is a real ‘island camp' and comprises five romantic, en-suite tents raised on stilts. The private veranda offers spectacular panoramic views of the broad floodplain.

A lit pathway connects the rooms with the main building. A small, sandy area with a fire pit can be seen when heading for the main building; this is the location for the traditional evening meal, prepared once a week. The lower level of the main building houses a comfortable bar and lounge, a small plunge pool, and a large deck stretching out into the water. The deck is often used as the venue for a romantic dinner beneath the stars. A staircase leads to the upper level and the dining room.

Jacana Camp is a truly romantic camp exuding charm, an island retreat at the very heart of the Okavango Delta.

Location
The camp is situated deep in the western part of the Okavango Delta on a small, paradisiacal island surrounded by dense papyrus swamps and a broad floodplain. This idyllic island is covered with magnificent fig trees and date palms.

Jacana Camp is only accessible by light aircraft. The camp is situated approx. 35 minutes drive from Jao Airstrip. During floods, Jacana is accessible by boat only from Jao Airstrip. Flight time to Maun in a Cessna Caravan is 40 minutes, and 1 hour 25 minutes to Kasane.

Jacana Camp is part of the private Jao Concession (630 km²). Pelo Camp, Tubu Tree Camp, Kwetsani Camp and the premiere Jao Camp also belong to this concession.

Wildlife
Jacana is ideal for water-based activities throughout the year. Wildlife mainly consists of water-loving animals such as elephant, hippo, red lechwe, the rare sitatunga antelope, crocodile and an infinite variety of water birds.

Activities
Water-based activities (motorboat and traditional ‘mokoro' dugout canoe) and game drives and night drives in open safari vehicles (when water levels permit).

A trip in a mokoro is an extremely beautiful experience and the floodplains in front of the camp are perfect for long excursions. Jacana is also the ideal place to do some fishing (catch and release).

Because the camp is located in a private concession, night driving with a searchlight and off-road driving for special animal observation is allowed. Close-up shots are guaranteed.
