Puku Ridge
South Luangwa National Park

Accommodation
Puku Ridge was completely rebuilt in 2019 and is now run by the Cumings family, who have built up a reputation with their two legendary camps Chiawa and Old Mondoro in Lower Zambezi.

The camp sits at the foot of a hill. Its eight large tents look out over the sweeping Kakumbi Dambo floodplain. The plain to the front of the camp is lit at night by floodlights and guests can watch the wildlife gathering at the small waterhole. The guest tents - raised on stilts - are beautifully furnished in modern, earthy tones and offer everything your heart desires - and even more: a cosy lounge, Wifi, airconditioning, ceiling fans, a large en-suite bathroom with indoor and outdoor shower, a huge bathtub with view and a very spacious multi-level veranda with private plunge pool.

However, the highlight of every room is the tower with the Day/Star Bed, where you can rest during the day and watch out for wildlife on the plains and sleep at night under the endless starry sky.

Location
Puku Ridge Camp is situated within Zambia's South Luangwa National Park. The camp is located a good 1.5-2 hour drive from Mfuwe Airport and actually part of the quieter southern sector.

Wildlife
The plain to the front of the camp is often visited by a good number of puku, impala, zebra, kudu, warthog and of course the mighty elephant and buffalo. Lion and leopard are relatively easy to find, wild dog less so. The Luangwa River is just a couple of hundred metres away and home to crocodile and hippo - the latter usually entering the stage when night falls.

Activities
The camp offers game drives in an open 4x4 vehicle and walks with armed rangers.

The Puku Ridge team created a network of new roads around the camp which is almost exclusively used by the Puku Ridge guides. Puku Ridge thus stands out as a premier camp not only delivering high standards but also quite an exclusive access to a prime game drive area.

Good to know
Thornicroft's giraffe, Cookson's wildebeest and Crawshay's zebra are unique to South Luangwa National Park.
