Gorongosa National Park
Formerly one of the best safari parks in Africa
The Carr Foundation - Rebuilding the park
Gorongosa National Park can look back on a glorious past and count such Hollywood legends as Gregory Peck and John Wayne amongst its illustrious safari visitors.
With its variety of ecosystems, ranging from lush mountain rainforests to sweeping grassy plains, those guests were able to experience the highest concentration of game in Africa. The history of the park, however, took a dramatic turn when almost 90% of the animals here were slaughtered during rebellious uprisings; soldiers ate the meat and traded the ivory for weapons.

Since 1995, the Carr Foundation has collaborated closely with local authorities to reinstate the park, and with a bit of luck, Gorongosa will soon return to its former glory.

Unfortunately, we are not yet able to offer reliable and safe safaris to Gorongosa National Park.
