Location
Tswalu Private Game Reserve is situated in the southern Kalahari, close to the border with Botswana. The flight in a comfortable PC12 takes 1.5 hours from Johannesburg and 2 hours from Cape Town. Tswalu is the ideal stopover between these two great cities.
Wildlife
The endless expanse and rugged beauty of the Kalahari region is home to rhino, giraffe, lion, aardvark, brown hyena, zebra, wildebeest, warthog, many species of antelope such as sable, eland, nyala, springbok, impala, and small animals such as the cheeky meerkat. A camera team has managed with plenty of patience to gain the confidence of a meerkat family, so much so that visitors can now walk very close to them. Tswalu is separated into two huge areas; one area houses the camp and the other is home to big cat.
Activities
Tswalu offers horse riding for beginners and children; its stable houses 15 horses and caters for all skill levels. Riding in the bush and encountering the wild animals at such close quarters is a fantastic experience. Day and night game drives and bushwalking together with experienced guides are also available. Braver guests may wish to spend a night on a nearby raised platform armed with a two-way radio. The camps also organise wonderful bush sundowners and dinners.
