Liwonde National Park is located in southern Malawi at 480m above sea level. The Shire River is the largest river in Malawi and flows from Lake Malawi into Lake Malombo and from there through the national park towards the south.
Liwonde National Park is worth a visit because the Shire River is absolutely beautiful. In the late afternoon many animals come to the river to drink and there is not better way to experience the park on a sundowner cruise on Shire River.

Animals that can be seen include elephants (the largest population in Malawi lives here), hippos, crocodiles, warthogs, common waterbucks, impalas, various storks, herons, cormorants, ospreys and kingfishers. Liwonde is also home to the rare black rhino and sable antelope.
