Accommodation
Saruni Samburu is a wonderful lodge located in Kenya’s wild north. The lodge is built into and around a giant volcanic rock face. Perched on this spectacular viewpoint, the six luxury villas are open and spacious, heralding spectacular views over Kenya’s Northern Frontier District and Mount Kenya in the distance.

There are two villas both with en-suite bathrooms and dressing rooms, spacious living, dining area and outdoor veranda. Four further villas are designed for families with two en-suite bedrooms with individual dressing rooms and one common large lounge and dining area, as well as several verandas.

Guests can enjoy the vast panoramas from the dining and lounge area, the two infinity pools and the Samburu Wellbeing Space. Nearby is a ground-level photographic hide next to a waterhole where the animals gather to drink.

Location
There are scheduled flights from Nairobi Wilson airport to Kalama Airstrip followed by a 40 min road transfer to Saruni Samburu. Alternatively the airline may use Oryx Airstrip in Samburu National Reserve, about a 1 hour drive from the lodge.

Saruni Samburu is located in tribal lands to the north of Samburu National Reserve. The lodge overlooks a vast private wildlife sanctuary called Kalama Conservancy, and has exclusive access to the surrounding 800km² of pristine, protected wilderness.

Saruni Samburu is the only lodge in Kalama Conservancy and guests enjoy exclusive access to the conservancy. The lodge is also the sole source of income for the communities found in the area.

Wildlife
It’s a place of rich natural diversity with an astounding number of animals from huge majestic elephant to lion, leopard and cheetah and the «Samburu Special Five»: the Beisa oryx, reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Gerenuk antelope and Somali ostrich. Wild dogs are also regularly seen.

The Samburu are the indigenous nomadic tribe and custodians of the area where the lodge is found. Guests have the unique opportunity to witness, interact with and learn from one of the oldest remaining tribes in Africa.

Activities
Saruni Samburu offers day and night drives. The fact that Saruni has exclusive use of the private wilderness of Kalama Conservancy, make game drives unique and uncrowded.

Further included activites are picnic breakfasts by the Ewaso Nyiro River or bush dinners in a dry river bed with firelight and Samburu dancers, guided bush walks and visits to the local village and local caves featuring ancient Samburu art.

There is an elephantproof, ground-level photographer’s hide in front of a waterhole, perfect for patient photographers.

Spa Treatments at the Samburu Wellbeing Space are extra. Addtional costs occur if you book a Mount Ololokwe hiking excursions, a cultural visit to local village & community or a helicopter excursion.

Good to know
Children of all ages are welcome. Saruni offers the unique ‘Warriors Academy’; an interactive experience designed for families with children.

Complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout the lodge.

Suruni stands at approximately 800m altitude. The northern region experiences slightly higher temperatures than the rest of the country with cold evenings consistent with a desert climate. Saruni Samburu is a low risk area due to low population density.
