This is a very varied and interesting safari for families. We visit the safari parks around Arusha and even visit the Serengeti, but also have a cultural visit of the Hadzabe at Lake Eyasi and a school visit in Karatu ...
Our guide will meet you in Arusha. For the first part of the trip you travel with your private guide in his vehicle. The vehicle is equipped with 4-6 seats, a cooler box, a charging station for electronic devices, enlarged front windows and of course the roof hatch for photographing. We also carry tables and chairs for picnics.
Your driver / guide will show all parks that are easily accessible from Arusha, which is Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Eyasi, home of the Hadzabe tribe.
For the second part of the trip you fly from Lake Manyara to the Serengeti, either to the North Serengeti or to the South, depending on where the Great Migration of wildebeest and zebra is. This is usually the highlight of your safari. If you like, you can then fly to Zanzibar.

The six luxurious rooms and two family rooms of the Arusha Villa are set in a beautiful garden with Mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro in the background. The spacious rooms have en-suite bathrooms, king-size beds, a sitting area and a private balcony or terrace.
Arusha Villa was originally a coffee roastery. In the garden elements from this time are still recognizable, for example around the pool, where in earlier days the coffee beans were washed. The beautiful garden overlooking the countryside invites you to rest in the sun. With a little luck, you‘ll even spot a Colobus Monkey in the treetops.
You can expect to see the Big-5 and during the dry months from July to October and some of the highest concentration of wildlife of any park in Tanzania.
Maramboi Tented Lodge features 38 spacious tented rooms, individually built on a raised deck with en-suite bathroom. There are 6 family rooms, perfect for guests with children. The bathrooms have a built-in shower and each tent has its own terrace from where guests can enjoy views of Lake Manyara and the Rift Valley.
The camp has a main area built on a raised deck. This is where the dining room and lounge are situated. The lounge has comfortable sofas and armchairs and a selection of board games are available. Every evening a fire is lit where guests can relax and enjoy the sunset whilst enjoying a drink. If the weather is good guests can have dinner outside under the stars. A swimming pool is available.
Maramboi Tented Lodge is a larger property and comes at a relatively low price, given the size and comfort of the rooms a good option for families.
The Great Rift Valley is clearly visible on the other side of the lake, with the escarpment dropping some 550 metres (1 640 feet) down to the lakeshore.
The northern gate of Manyara National Park is located 120 km west of Arusha close to the village Mto wa Mbu. If you like we may stop here for a walk to discover a bit of the local village life.
The park is renowned for its good concentration of elephant and tree climbing lion. It is also home to large herds of buffalo, giraffe, hippo and antelope. The area is also home to a conspicuous number of olive baboons, which gather in groups of up to several hundred. The flamingos on the lake, of course, provide a fascinating spectacle, and with over 400 species, it is also a birding enthusiast’s dream.
Ziwani Lodge is located on the shores of Lake Eyasi and offers stunning views over the seasonal soda lake. The lodge offers interactions with the local tribes and is a fabulous extension to a safari in Northern Tanzania.
The seven stone cottages are built on both sides of the main building. One of the cottages is a family cottage with space for two adults and two children. All cottages have en-suite bath rooms and a large verandah. In front of the main building there is a swimming pool.
It's about 3 1/2 hours total from Arusha; from the turn off at Karatu it takes about 1.5 hours to get to the camp.
A visit to the Hadzabe can be built into a safari. A road leads from Karatu to Lake Eyasi where we can recommend some lodges that serve as the base for a visit to the hadzabe.
You visit the Hadzabe in the early morning and with a bit of luck the Hadzabe decide to go hunting in the course of the day. You will be invited to participate in the hunt. Look forward to a unique adventure!
The shortest possible visit includes one night at Lake Eyasi, with the visit of the Hadzabe the next morning. If you have more time, a second night is recommended. In the afternoon you could visit the waDatoga with your guide. The waDatoga are shepherds like the Maasai and have largely preserved their independence as well.
Plantation Lodge rests like a green oasis on the soft, red-brown hills amidst the vastness and serenity of East Africa. Seamlessly nestled in the blossoming garden, the lodge's individually furnished rooms and suites exude a feeling of comfort and relaxation. Furnished with great attention to detail, the personal touch of this owner-run lodge can be seen and felt everywhere, and the warm and friendly service leaves no wish unfulfilled.
The lodge's 16 rooms are generously spaced out over the flowering garden; several come with verandas and direct access to the lush green garden. Each room is individually furnished with carefully selected accessories; freshly cut and arranged flowers offer a beautiful, decorative accent.
The Ngorongoro Crater is the world's largest inactive, intact, and unfilled volcanic caldera with 19km in diameter and walls 600m high. Its floor covers 260 square kilometres and acts like a natural zoo, providing food for a high resident animal population.
The mineral-rich crater floor is covered with nutritious grass and attracts large herds of animals. Up to 25’000 mammals, primarily herbivores can be found at any one time in the Ngorongoro Crater. The list includes wildebeest, eland, hartebeest, zebra, gazelle, buffalo, rhinos and warthog. Moors and forests provide food for hippo, elephant, baboon, waterbuck and bushbuck. Big cat such as lion, cheetah, leopard and serval find rich pickings here. Large packs of hyena also roam the crater, hunting or pinching the prey of other predators.
Lemala Camp is a classic mobile safari camp with 10 (Ndutu) respectively 12 (Mara) spacious tents, each with a solid wooden floor, 24-hr solar electricity supply, running water, small terrace with lounge sofa, en-suite bathroom with flushing toilet and bush shower, that is refilled with warm water on request. Two of the rooms are suitable for families and offer two en-suite bedrooms and a shared lounge.
The dining tent and lounge are separate tents, comfortably furnished and welcoming guests for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is also an open fireplace that is popular with guests for the pre-dinner drinks.
Lemala Ndutu
The camp can be found in the Ndutu region from December through to the end of March. The Ndutu area is located south of the Naabi Gate and is not part of the Serengeti National Park. We call the camp Lamala Ndutu during this time of the year.
Lemala Mara
The camp is called Lemala Mara from June until the end of October while it is situated some 9km from Kogatende Airstrip in the northern Serengeti, close to the Mara River crossings.
