Capetown
Cape Town gets its name from the Cape of Good Hope, which is situated 40 km further south. The city was the first permanent colonial settlement and an important replenishing station for sailors on their way to India; it thus gained the name ‘Mother City’.

Cape Town is a great place to spend a couple of days. Set against the backdrop of Table Mountain and looking out towards the stormy ocean, its location is truly magnificent. The coastal road is one of the most spectacular in the world, its vines produce some of the best wines in South Africa, and it’s bursting with great and affordable restaurants. If you play golf, then the Garden Route is perfect for you – it offers some of the world’s best golf courses within striking distance of Cape Town.

Your personal guide can also add a historical and political perspective, as he grew up in Capetown's District 6 during apartheid and in neighbourhood of the Archbishop of Capetown, Desmond Tutu, whom he knew personally.

Visit of Table Mountain

Table Mountain is a landmark of Cape Town and rises in the back of the city to 1087 meters at its highest point. The Table Mountain massif also includes Signal Hill, Lion's Head and the Twelve Apostles, which extend from Kloof Nek (the saddle between Table Mountain and Lion's Head) to Hout Bay. Table Mountain can be climbed on foot, but there is also a cable car built by Caraventa. If you plan to use the cable car, best to get up early as the queues can become quite challenging.

Coastal Road Capetown
Coastal Road  to the Cape
Follow the beautiful coastal road to Hout Bay, from there via Chapman's Peak to the other side and on to the Cape of Good Hope, which you will reach in about two hours.

Visit Cape of good Hope / Cape Point
Day Trip  Cape of Good Hope
The Cape of Good Hope lies about 44km south of Capetown and marked the turning point into the Indian Ocean for the trading ships on their way to India. The sea is rough and dangerous as the warm waters of the Agulhas current hit the cold Benguela current. Combined with very strong winds, this passage has always been a challenge for seafarers. The Cape is dominated by Cape Point and it's light house that is visible from far away.

Visit the penguins of Simon's Town
Visit the Penguins  Simon's Town
A colony of African penguins settled on the Cape peninsula close to Simon's Town in 1982. The colony has grown to more than 2000 birds in recent years and can be visited at Boulders beach and Foxy Beach. The animals are unusually tame and used to people and they provide great photo opportunities. The beach is public and in some areas people and penguins are swimming alongside.

Eastern Cape
The Eastern Cape offers various safari parks around Port Elizabeth. The area can be used as the start or end point of a route along the Garden Route from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth or vice versa.

Interesting for us are some of the safari parks. The first parks were installed around 1990 and slowly built up, especially in the knowledge that the Big 5 were once at home in the Eastern Cape in the last century. A safari in the Eastern Cape doesn't feel as wild as in other African countries, as we are much closer to civilization, but the parks are very good for families, as the area is free of malaria and many of the camps are very child friendly.
