The crystal clear waters of the Indian Ocean in front of Pongwe Beach are perfect for swimming as there are no rocks. Shielded by a reef approximately 1 km offshore, the waters are always calm. Well protected and perfect for a tranquil holiday, the palm-fringed beach features numerous loungers where guests can sleep, read or simply lay back and stare at the sky. Pongwe is a simple lodge, however its excellent location, beautiful beach, friendly service and good food make it superb value.
Situated in a beautiful garden, the Garden View Cottages and the Beach Front Cottages (16 in toal) are divided into two guest units, each with an en-suite bathroom, private terrace and traditional, handmade Zanzibar beds and doors. The Beach Front Cottages are built closer to the ocean but apart from that, all cottages are identical.
Four larger Sea View Suites with private plunge pool were added on the opposite side of the main building. The main pool is located in a slightly elevated position and overlooks the picturesque white sandy beach, fringed with palm trees.
In addition to delicious seafood (lobster, crab etc.), the restaurant at Pongwe Beach Hotel also offers a rich variety of international cuisine.
Location
Pongwe Beach Hotel is situated in a beautiful spot in the east of Zanzibar. At high tide the water cuts Pongwe's stretch of beach off from the rest of the east coast hotels, making it a totally private beach. At low tide visitors can walk along the beach from the other hotels, but the upper part of the beach is private and reserved for the hotel's guests only.
Stone Town is located approximately 35 km away or an hour drive on tarreded roads.
Activities
The hotel offers trips to Stone Town, island tours, visits to a spice plantation, rent-a-motorbike, boat trips, deep-sea fishing and, of course, snorkelling and diving. PADI courses are also available, but not on site. Pongwe Beach on the map
