Musekese Camp
Kafue National Park

Accommodation
Musekese Camp was established in 2013 by two young and enthusiastic lads, Phil Jeffery and Tyrone McKeith, who also act as hosts and guides. They are also very much involved in the conservation of the area, especially anti-poaching operations. This small and owner-run bush camp has only five chalets, taking a maximum of ten guests.

The rooms are simple yet spacious and comfortable with flushing toilets, warm bucket showers under a mix of canvas and thatch, shaded private verandahs overlooking the game-rich „Eden" lagoon. All power requirements are drawn from a well configured solar set up. Whilst there are no charging facilities in the rooms, the main area has plenty of surplus power 24/7 to keep all devices fully charged and drinks cold. Food is usually served on the open deck where guests also enjoy the beautiful view of the lagoon.

Location
Musekese is situated on the eastern banks of the Kafue River in the Lufupa sector of Northern Kafue National Park. At 22’500 km², Kafue is one of the largest parks in Africa, a magnificent and relatively little-visited wilderness.

The camp is usually accessed by light aircraft into the nearby airstrip Lufupa (1h 20), followed by a combination of road and boat transfer. A road transfer from Lusaka takes about 5-7 hours depending on the road conditions.

Musekese's sisters camp, Ntemwa Busanga Camp, is located on the southern part of the Busanga Plains. A transfer from Musekese to Ntemwa takes approximately 3 hours.

Wildlife
When it comes to wildlife, Kafue is particularly renowned for its very wide range of antelopes and other herbivores. Particular sightings are red lechwe and puku, zebra, blue wildebeest, kudu, bushbuck, eland, reedbuck, duiker, grysbok and waterbuck. The emerald green Kafue River never fails to impress, with its crystal clear perennial waters drawing in boundless wildlife and a wide array of birds.

Large pods of hippos, herds of elephants and some of the largest crocodiles in Africa are commmon inhabitants and visitors of the Kafue River and its countless lagoons. Lions and spotted hyenas are widespread all over the park and leopards are often seen at the many dambos that line the Lufupa stream. Occasional sightings of African wild dogs occur all over the park, but they are notoriously unpredictable.

Activities
Day and night game drives (vehicles with or without roof and specially adapted camera mounts to ensure complete stability for wildlife shots), proper walking safaris, boat safaris, birding walks, look-out platforms, visits of the Musekese Conservation Anti-Poaching Unit.

Good to know
Operational months are June to December. No Wi-Fi or cellphone reception. Children under 14 years are only allowed if the camp is booked on a private basis.
