The No.5 Boutique Hotel is a pleasant and much more private alternative to the corporate hotels in Entebbe. Its close proximity to the International Airport makes it the perfect stopover before or after your Uganda trip. The hotel's ten en-suite rooms are located in the main building, five of which are on the lower floor with direct access to the garden and five on the upper floor with a small balcony. The annex building is occupied by apartments that are rented for longer periods of time.

The No.5 restaurant offers international cuisine on a high level and an impressive selection of fine wines from South Africa. Located adjacent to Lake Mburo National Park, Mihingo Lodge is perched high on a rocky kopje and has spectacular views over the vast savannah landscape. Designed to blend in with its fragile surroundings, the twelve thatched-roofed tents are raised on platforms and come with en-suite bathrooms, hot and cold running water, showers and flush loos. Each rooms has its unique charm and character, whether it is nestled in forest, overlooking the lake, perched on a rocky outcrop or located down by the water hole. An infinity pool overlooks the valley below where buffalo, eland, impala, warthogs, bush buck and zebra can be seen at the waterhole.

Location
With 370 km², Lake Mburo National Park is a relatively small park. Lake Mburo, located in the middle of the park, forms a wetland that includes a 50km long swamp area and 14 other lakes, that are all supplied with water from the Ruizi River.

Mihingo Lodge is located close to Lake Mburo National Park. The drive to the park entrance takes about 30 minutes. The drive to Bwindi Forest takes about 6 hours, to Entebbe about 4 hours, Queen Elizabeth NP about 3,5 hour and Kibale Forest 5 hours.

2 nights Mount Gahinga Lodge, Mgahinga National Park

The six cottages or bandas of Mount Gahinga Lodge are built of stone and protected with a thatched roof. In front of the entrance there has a terrace with seating. Each banda is colorfully decorated and has twin or double beds, en-suite bathrooms with flush toilets and running water and a private terrace with seating.

The main building offers a lounge, bar, restaurant, library and sundeck with magnificent vistas of the Virunga Volcanoes.

Location
Mgahinga Park covers the part of the Virunga Volcanoes located in Uganda. The area was declared a National Park in 1991 to protect the area from land grabbing and to preserve the habitat of the gorillas. The Batwa pygmies were displaced in the process and live currently outside the park. The approximately 18 remaining families live in simple conditions and are mainly supported by tourism.

The lodge is reached from Kisoro in about an hours drive. There are regular flights to Kisoro from Entebbe.

Transport Mode Gorilla Trekking in Mgahinga NP
Gorilla trekking starts in the morning from the rangers headquarter and can take as little as two hours or as much as six hours, depending on where the gorillas are. Only 8 guests are allowed per gorilla group and the maximum time spent with the gorillas is strictly 1 hour. The walk may include trekking through dense forest, sometimes including steeper climbs and guests need a bit of endurance and good footgear but will be rewarded with a life changing experience. At the moment one habituated gorilla family has settled in the park, the Nyakagezi group. Trekking to the gorillas and sightings of the Golden Monkeys are relatively easy as the majority of the forest is bamboo and not as dense and overgrown as in Bwindi.

2 nights Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge is located in southwestern Uganda, perched high on a hill, with sensational views of the Virunga volcanoes that stretch from Uganda via Rwanda into the Democratic Republic of Congo. At night, the glow of the Nyiragongo volcano shimmers in the distance. This view alone is already worth the nightly rate.

Clouds Lodge is the perfect base for exploring the natural habitat of the mountain gorillas of Bwindi. The Nkuringo group of gorillas can be reached in about 1.5 hours on foot. A truly unforgettable and touching experience.

The lodge is also considered a pioneer for ecotourism in Uganda and its involvement with the local people. Regional artists have contributed to the design of the lodge interior. In return guests of Clouds Lodge have preferential access to the Nkuringo sector and priority in the allocation of permits to this sector.

Built of local volcanic stone, the lodge's eight chalets (two of which are family rooms) have spacious en-suite bathrooms, a large sitting room with double-sided fireplace and beautiful views over the valley from your private veranda.

Location
Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge is located in the Nkuringo sector at the southwestern gate of Bwindi National Park. At an altitude of 2,100 meters, Clouds Lodge sits on Nteko Ridge and offers spectacular views of the mysterious Virunga Mountains and the fertile lands of the Great Rift Valley.

Travel time to Clouds Lodge from Entebbe is a whopping 10 hours. Flights from Entebbe take 1 hour 15 minutes to Kisoro Airstrip. The road transfer from the airstrip to the lodge is just over an hour.

Transport Mode Gorilla Trekking Bwindi / Nkuringo
Gorilla trekking starts in the morning from the rangers headquarter and can take as little as two hours or as much as six hours, depending on where the gorillas are. Only 8 guests are allowed per gorilla group and the maximum time spent with the gorillas is strictly 1 hour. The walk may include trekking through dense forest, sometimes including steeper climbs and guests need a bit of endurance and good footgear but will be rewarded with a life changing experience. In the southern sector of Bwindi you have the choice of trekking at Nkuringo or Rushaga.

Transport Mode Trekking the Bwindi Forest
Instead of a tedious seven-hour drive around the park by vehicle, you will hike from the southern part of Bwindi directly to the northern Buhoma sector. You will be driven to the village of Nteko, from where the trek begins. The trekking takes about four hours and is accompanied by a ranger and a guide who will explain flora & fauna and of course point out the beautiful birds. Keep your eyes open for chimpanzees - they also live in good numbers in the Bwindi Forest. Shortly before reaching Buhoma, the Munyaga waterfalls are worth a little detour. Buhoma Lodge and Gorilla Forest Lodge are located conveniently right at the end of the trek, all other accommodation are situated outside the park in the village.

2 nights Bwindi Lodge, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Bwindi Lodge calls itself "Jungle Lodge", as the main building and rooms are beautifully nestled in the wild forests of Bwindi. The stylish main building offers a lounge, restaurant and the Bwindi Bar, which awaits you with drinks and samples of local cuisine.

The large windows of the main building are creating light and a sense of being in the middle of the forest. The main living area has a central fireplace which acts as a focal point for guests to relax and discuss their gorilla tracking experience. A newly designed outdoor terrace gives dramatic views of the impenetrable forest and is a great place to spot the monkeys and birds hidden in the foliage.

Guests are accommodated in eight tasteful bandas, which have en-suite bathrooms, showers and double washbasins. Most rooms also have a small terrace with lounge chairs. The two newly built deluxe bandas are larger and your upgrade option. A personal butler service is provided for all guests.

Location
Bwindi Lodge is located on the edge of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in the northern part of the National Park, in the so-called Buhoma sector. The lodge is located at the entrance of the village below the access road. The park boundary and ranger headquarters is about 5 minutes drive from the lodge. At the foot of the lodge a small river meanders along the forest.

Travel time to Bwindi Lodge from Entebbe is around nine hours. Flights from Entebbe to Kihihi Airstrip take about one hour and from there it is only a one-hour drive to the lodge.

Four different gorilla groups can be visited in the Buhoma sector. They are called Rushegura, Habinyanja, Katwe and Mubare.

2 nights Ishasha Wilderness Camp, Queen Elizabeth National Park

Ishasha Wilderness Camp is a classic safari camp with ten guest tents that all feature en-suite bathroom, shower and running water. The camp was built in a romantic location on the banks of Ntungwe River under shady trees. Guests who do not expect too much luxury and enjoy a typical safari camp in the middle of the wilderness will love this camp.

The open main building comes with a large dining and lounge area. Down by the river is a fire pit where guests can sit around the open fire in the evening and enjoy a drink.

Ishasha Wilderness Camp is located in the southern Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Bwindi Forest can be reached in about two hours. The northern section of the Queen Elizabeth National Park (Mweya Peninsula, Mweya Lodge) in about 3 hrs, depending on the road conditions. Kihihi Airstrip is about 45 minutes from the camp.

Kyambura Gorge Lodge offers eight remarkably tasteful bandas with double or twin beds. The wooden floors, high ceilings and carefully chosen interior design give the rooms style and grandeur - your perfect home away from home in Queen Elizabeth National Park. Four of the rooms, the Deluxe Bandas, are larger and provide even more space.

All rooms are equipped with en-suite bathrooms, flush toilet, double washbasins, shower and a private balcony. The rooms are named after the chimpanzees of Kyambura Gorge and are slightly elevated on a hillside. Enjoy views across Queen Elizabeth National Park to the snow-capped peaks of the Rwenzori Mountains, which are clearly visible on good days.

The lodge has vast grounds - in the middle of it sits the beautifully restored main house, which was a coffee roastery once. The old building has been carefully restored and transformed into a modern living room. If the weather permits, meals are served on the terrace. There is also a beautiful swimming pool and spa.

Location
Kyambura Gorge Lodge is located on the eastern border of Queen Elizabeth National Park, just outside the park. This is absolutely no disadvantage as the game drives in the northern part are done on the Kasenyi plains. These are easily accessible via the bridge that crosses the Kazinga Channel at Katunguru.

Kyambura Gorge is situated close to the lodge. Descending the steep gorge and crossing the log bridges over the river requires some agility and fitness. Chimp Trekking requires a permit, which is issued in advance and the trekkers must be accompanied by an official ranger.

Kazinga Channel connects Lake Edward and Lake George, named after Queen Victoria's son, Edward VII and his successor, George V. The boat trips start at Mweya Lodge, which can be reached in about an hours drive.

A drive from Kampala / Entebbe takes about seven hours. Kibale Forest and the southern part of Queen Elizabeth National Park can be reached in about three hours.

Transport Mode Boat trip on Kazinga Channel
The 36km long Kazinga Canal connects Lake Edward and Lake George, named after Queen Victoria's son, Edward VII and his successor, George V. The boat trips start from the Mweya Peninsula and take about two hours, travelling along both banks of the river. With a bit of luck, you will see many elephants and buffalos on the river banks, as well as hippos, crocodiles and many birds. You also pass a fishing village with very beautiful coloured boats.

2 nights Semliki Safari Lodge, Semliki Wildlife Reserve

Semliki Safari Lodge is the only accommodation in the entire Semliki Valley and offers a very exclusive experience. The lodge has six en-suite tented suites with wooden floors and a terrace where guests can sit outside and relax on daybeds plus two safari suites with outdoor bathtubs and private verandas.

The main building is slightly elevated on stilts, open to the front and covered with a high thatched roof. Great views of the Rwenzori Mountains can be enjoyed during the meals, from the bar and from the swimming pool.

Semliki Safari Lodge in the Toro-Semliki Game Reserve sits in the heart of the Albertine Rift Valley and is surrounded by the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains and Lake Albert. The topographically unique and at the same time oldest protected area in Uganda is considered an absolute insider tip for ornithologists. 34 endemic bird species can be found in the Semliki Reserve.

The lodge can be reached by plane (2 hours from Entebbe) or by vehicle. The drive from Fort Portal takes about two hours.

Transport Mode Boat trip on Lake Albert
The swamp and shore landscapes around Lake Albert provide ideal breeding conditions for the rare shoebill stork, fish eagle and many other species. A boat trips on Lake Albert (half & full day trips) provides you with a good chance to spot a shoebill stork, sometimes with the help of one of the local fishermen who have good knowledge of the birds' whereabouts.

2 nights Kyaninga Lodge, Fort Portal

Kyaninga Lodge is the work of an English visionary who built this lodge within 6 years more or less on his own! It is located at Kyaninga Crater Lake, about 7km north of the town of Fort Portal. The construction is quite dramatic. Kyaninga was built on wooden stilts and long walkways connect the cottages to the multi-story main building that towers at the top. In front of the main building are sundecks and a swimming pool.

The eight cottages have very comfortable and large bedrooms with a little lounge, as well as a private bathroom with a freestanding bathtub and a separate shower. The rooms also offer a private terrace where you can enjoy breakfast tea and gaze at the impressive Rwenzori mountain range in the distance.

Kibale National Park (795 km²) is home to 13 different primate species. Especially the chimpanzees are a magnet for many visitors to Uganda. About 1,500 chimpanzees live in Kibale Forest, as well as the largest population of colobus monkeys in East Africa.

Kyaninga Lodge overlooks Lake Kyaninga and is about an hour's drive from Kibale Forest and about two hours' drive from Queen Elizabeth National Park.
