Zomba Forest Lodge
Zomba

Accommodation
Zomba Forest Lodge is a small colonial cottage nestled on the escarpment of Zomba Mountain, just within the Forest Reserve. The lodge is simple but very welcoming and a good base for exploring Zomba plateau and Zomba village.

The lodge is situated at 1800 m above sea level, so be prepared for chilly nights. The roaring log fire in the winter months adds to the friendly atmosphere and with only four en-suite rooms this lodge is very intimate and personal. Paraffin lamps, candles and a few solar lanterns are used as lights at night as there is no electricity at the lodge.

Location
The Zomba plateau is lcoated in Southern Malawi and reaches an altitude of 2000m. The many rivers and streams running through it, surrounded by indigenous green forests filled with a variety of birds, animal species as well as insects make these mountains a favourite amongst trekkers.

Zomba was the old capital of Malawi and although it has lost some of its grandeur it is still a nice place to visit. It is home to Malawi's university. Zomba town can be reached by vehicle in about 25 minutes.

Wildlife
The reserve encompasses about 47km². Antilopes, primates and a lot of birds and butterflies can be found in the forest.

Activities
A drive to the top of the plateau takes about 25 minutes. A hike from the lodge will take about two hours. Other activities include a visit of Zomba town, horse riding, fishing.
